Sweet song by Bhadrachala Ramadasa, tuned in raga Shankarabharanam by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, sung by Prince Rama Varma. Over the years, this song has come to be one of Varmaji's most often requested songs, by his listeners, along with Sagara Shayana, Janani Ninuvina and other masterpieces. Varmaji asked me not to upload this since I have already uploaded two other videos of this song, but I am uploading it all the same since it is one of my own personal favourites too :-) Sorry Varmaji.

Varmaji jokes that this version of "Mishra Pilu" sounds more Mishra than Pilu, but sings it all the same since the tune is so beautiful.

Sweet and beautiful Varnam in the raga Swarashtram (Not Sowrashtram) composed by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna sung by Prince Rama Varma and the students of Veenavadini School of music at Perla. Varmaji told me that when Dr.Balamuralikrishna sang this song for the first time more than four decades ago, somebody accused him of singing wrong phrases in raga Sowrashtram. Dr.Balamuralikrishna quipped that since it was the 25th anniversary of Independance of India at the time, he had named the raga "Swarashtram" which was slightly different from Sourashtram :-) This uses phrases from Sourashtram, Chakravakam and Suryakanthi and the entire varnam is composed around the three notes, Sa, Pa and Sa. This recording was made by the cameramen of Bhakthi TV who are based in Hyderabad, who travelled for 24 hours all the way to Perla, which is a little village near Mangalore, to cover Varmaji's three day workshop there. I admire their spirit, the spirit of the Perla kids and their guru Mr.Yogeesh Sharma and of Varmaji for the wonderful job they are doing and I am happy to share at least these few videos with all of you. Though I had never heard this varnam before, I have already fallen in love with it with this one single recording :-)

The sweet children of Veenavadini School of Music, Perla, sing a Thillana composed by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna. They learn music regularly from Shri Yogeesh Sharma. I have the pleasure of teaching them from time to time and I have fallen in love with the place, the people, their sweetness and innocence :-) Students of music who are interested in attending these camps are welcome to check out the schedule in my website, which has Shri Yogeesh Sharma's contact information too. These classes were recorded by Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam's SVBC TV Channel. They seem to have spliced together Two renditions of the song, which is why it suddenly becomes faster halfway through And a few beats are missing too.....Oh well.....But they are doing a wonderful job by bringing these little music sessions to a really wide listener base and I am very grateful for that. Prince Rama Varma sings an exquisite bhajan by Tulasidas in Raga Vallabhi, somewhat similar to Rag Chayanat, on the programme "Sruthilayam" in Amritha TV as part of a thematic concert comprising of songs by other composers set to music by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna. This is one of the few songs on Lord Krishna composed by Tulasidas, who was a celebrated devotee of Rama.
